Female Entreprenuer Appointed Economic Development Policy Maker
Atlanta Mayor Bill Campbell has appointed business executive -- Pamela J. Smith, president and Chief Executive Officer of Smith Real Estate Services (SRES), Inc.-- to the board of directors of Atlanta's One-Stop Capital Shop.
"One-Stop," is part of the multi-billion dollar Atlanta Empowerment Zone Corporation. The non-profit organization assists businesses to grow and prosper by providing information, technical assistance and administrative resources.
"We are excited to have Pamela join the board, her impact and contributions will be felt immediately," says Mayor Campbell, who also serves as board chairman. "For a number of years, Pamela has worked successfully -- both with the public and private sectors -- in brokering major business and community redevelopment projects that have benefited our community. She brings a wealth of experience and ability to the One Stop Capital Shop and I believe she will help us to move to where we want to be in the very near future."
Ms. Smith -- a full service real estate broker/developer who specializes in commercial brokerage, counseling and valuation -- has built a 16-year award-winning business. She is recognized as an expert in analyzing real estate trends and market conditions. The businesswoman is also well-known as accomplished in providing (nontraditional commercial) real estate services like right-of-way acquisitions, nonresidential real estate valuation, development management services and evaluation services.
As the owner of a female owned firm, Ms. Smith believes strongly in returning the investment that others have given to her over the years. She has been an active volunteer for more than 1O years acting as a mentor for business students at Morehouse College and at other Atlanta-area institutions. She is president of the Urban Residential Development Corporation, co-founder of the Board of Association of Minority Commercial Real Estate Professionals and immediate past president of the Fulton County Board of Assessors.
Smith Real Estate Services has an impressive list of referred and repeat customers. Some of which include: State Properties Commission; Atlanta Development Authority. Citizens Trust Bank; Capitol City Bank; Atlanta Housing Authority; Atlanta Board of Education; Metropolitan Atlanta Olympic Games Authority; City of Atlanta; General Services Administration; Dept. of Housing and Urban Development; and the U.S. Postal Service.
Ms. Smith and her firm has been recognized as being extraordinary. They have been the recipient of numerous awards and special recognition some of which include: "America's Best and Brightest Award," presented by Dollars and Sense magazine, the "Non-Traditional Business Achievement Award" presented bv the Atlanta Business League; has been listed as "Women to Watch" by the Atlanta Business Chronicle and included on the 100 list of "Georgia's Most Powerful Women in Women Owned Businesses". She was also the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce finalist, "Small Business Person-of-the-Year." In 1999, Ms. Smith was named "Small Business person-of-the-Year" by the Atlanta Business League.
With certification by the Small Business Administration as an 8(a) firm, Ms. Smith has earned degrees in urban studies from Rutgers University, a Masters in Public Administration from New York University, Masters of Science in Real Estate from Georgia State University and a Certificate in Real Estate Development from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Center for Real Estate.
